Facts and figures illustrates the development and spread of eGovernment in Switzerland. It shows how the Confederation, the cantons and the communes are progressing in the implementation of electronic government services and how these are perceived by the population and companies.

Switzerland is the most innovative country

Switzerland leads the rankings in the Global Innovation Index for the seventh consecutive year. In 2016, Switzerland filed the most patent applications per capita in Europe which is an indication of the high level of its innovative power.

According to a study of the areas of knowledge and technology and creativity, Switzerland got top marks. Switzerland also performs well in the areas of secure political and regulatory environment, human capital and research, infrastructure and level of maturity of the market and of the companies.

Swiss authority online offerings are user friendly

The websites of the Swiss authorities are extremely user-friendly in terms of the European average (online feedback, etc.). The Swiss authorities provide 75% of their electronic services online (100% signifies fully electronic).

The exchange of data is steadily rising

More than 50 organisations, including federal offices, cantons and communes use the sedex data exchange platform to transmit data securely. Between 2012 and 2015, the exchange of data has more than doubled. The 2016 record with more than 13.8 million messages should be soundly beaten this year.
